Passive by default

It listens first.

Muninn's detection is receive-only — no pings, no probes, no beacon announcing you're there. The one time it reaches out is when you point it at a device to inspect it: a brief, ordinary Bluetooth connection, like pairing earbuds. That's opt-in and off by default. Your locations and history stay on your device — nothing leaves unless you say so.

Turn on sharing and your node joins something bigger: the first passive, verifiable map of how fast surveillance is spreading — how many cameras, appearing how quickly, run by whom. A number no one else can measure. Your movements never join it — only the watchers do.

Is Muninn legal?

Yes. It only listens to the public radio signals that devices around you already broadcast — the same way your phone sees nearby Wi-Fi names. It never transmits, jams, or reads the private contents of anything.

Does it ever transmit?

Detection is receive-only — Muninn never announces itself while it listens. The one exception is Explore GATT: when you choose to deep-inspect a specific device, it makes a brief, ordinary Bluetooth connection to read that device's public profile — the same thing your phone does to pair with earbuds. It's opt-in, never automatic, and off by default.

Will it drain my battery?

It's built for passive, low-duty listening, and you choose how hard it works. A quiet background watch sips power; a full survey uses more — always on your terms.

What data leaves my phone?

By default, nothing. Your locations and history stay on-device. Sharing to the flock — the surveillance Census — is opt-in and never includes your movements, only the watchers you spot.

Which platforms does it run on?

Android first, in active development, with Raspberry Pi and ESP32 nodes today for always-on sensing. On iPhone, Apple locks down the passive RF scanning Muninn relies on — so instead of a hobbled native app, a small ESP32 sensor pairs with your phone and feeds it the data. Same detection, external antenna.

Do I need special hardware?

No — the phone app needs none. If you want more range or an always-on watch, a ~$10 ESP32 or a Raspberry Pi extends it. Optional, never required.
